Installed Firefox 3 Beta 3 here today at the office. “Shiny new fixes” they said. So I load it up, and obviously none of my addons work again (so I have to run them through my converter), and I attempt to hit Curse. “Connecting to www.curse.com…” for a minute. Ok, wtf, is the website down? Nope, Google doesn’t work either. Turns out, no websites loading in a timely fashion due to DNS lookups being extremely slow.

So I quickly Googled and found an answer (although unrelated it seemed).

Go to about:config and search for network.dns.disableIPv6. Change the value to true and voila, the internet is now fast again.

Thank you! I was trying to pinpoint the slowdown … this tip fixed it.

I am so frustrated today as I spent this morning converting my set up and bookmarks over to Firefox from Safari. This decision was based on Firefox’s fast webpage download speeds recently. Somehow it has totally slowed up and I will go back to Safari…. annoying stuff!!

As a newbie - how do I get to about:config’ as mentioned above? a step by step reference would be very helpful of course :-)

Bingo. I was about to remove F3 until I found this tip. Worked like a charm. Just wondering how many other Mac users did not find this tip and are cursing the new version.

THANK YOU! That was really helpful. I also use Leopard and was desperated about the performance of FF3 on some sites (not all). Very valuable tip!

Somehow Firefox 3 has become really slow on my machine since yesterday. I tried the above trick but it’s not working for me :-(
